Significant value in the global supply chain finance market remains untapped

The global supply chain finance market is a large and growing market, with estimates of its size ranging from $1.5 trillion to $2.5 trillion. Despite its size, however, significant value remains untapped in this market, particularly in developing countries and among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

One of the main reasons for this is the lack of access to information and capital for many SMEs. Many SMEs, particularly in developing countries, do not have the financial resources or credit history to qualify for traditional forms of supply chain finance, such as letters of credit or export credit insurance. As a result, they may be unable to secure the financing they need to participate in global supply chains.

In addition, the complexity and uncertainty of global supply chains can make it difficult for banks and other financial institutions to assess the creditworthiness of potential borrowers and manage the risks associated with supply chain finance. This can make it challenging for them to offer supply chain finance products and services to SMEs, even if they are willing to do so.

Overall, tapping into the significant value that remains untapped in the global supply chain finance market will require a combination of efforts to improve access to information and capital for SMEs, as well as efforts to develop more innovative and inclusive supply chain finance products and services that can support the needs of SMEs in global supply chains.
